SureClad porcelain stone delivers student living upgrade
Shackerley has added to our track record of providing hard-wearing and attractive facades for the student accommodation sector with a 168m2 facade for a Unite Students development in London.
Designed by AXIOM Architects, The ‘Student Living Heights’ project in Islington involved a re-clad of an existing building, using Shackerley SureClad porcelain stone cladding.
Specified in a deep beige colourway, the SureClad porcelain stone has been used to create the feature facade on both main elevations, enhancing the striking 3D appearance of infill sections between the windows.
All the 1202 x 600mm SureClad porcelain stone facade panels required for the project were manufactured to order at Shackerley’s ISO 9001 certified factories in Lancashire. All panels were manufactured as installation-ready facade elements, precision cut and drilled to order using our advanced, bespoke machinery, with SureClad brackets attached using undercut anchors fitted in quality assured factory conditions.
Full pre-fabrication of the panels with all brackets not only ensures compliance with the ISO TS 17870-3:2023 standard for porcelain facades, but also aids speed and ease of installation, removing any need for cutting or drilling on site and enhancing installation integrity.
Shackerley’s SureClad porcelain stone is certified A1 non-combustible to BS EN 13501-1. With the addition of Shackerley’s safety meshing, the SureClad porcelain stone facade for Student Living Heights is A2 s1,d0, making it ideal for the residential building and compliant with the Building Safety Act 2022.
The facade was installed by M Clarke & Sons Contracts Ltd, using the Shackerley SureClad Hang On carrier system. The finished facade brings depth, texture and complementary colour to the facade, creating the illusion of balconies, while delivering a low maintenance facade solution that is resistant to freeze-thaw damage, U/V, pollutants, algae and graffiti.
