Project Overview
Constructed on the site of a former car park, the 133-room Halyard Hotel in Liverpool is a 4-star boutique hotel, located close to the city’s famous Albert Dock. Part of IHG’s ‘Vignette Collection’, the hotel has been designed to capture Liverpool’s mercantile heritage, combining contemporary luxury with the city’s rich history.
Design Requirements
The architects originally specified a 50mm-wide Roman format brick for the 2250m2 façade, and the Shackerley team developed a bespoke solution to create the same longitudinal visual effect.
Shackerley usually manufactures the cassette profiles for the BrickClad® mechanically-fixed brick façade system using Magnelis Steel, which combines zinc, aluminium and magnesium to provide three times more corrosion resistance than galvanisation and creates a self-healing coating to protect against vulnerable nicks or scratches. However, the coastal location for the Halyard Hotel in Liverpool and requirements from the local planning authority stipulated the use of a stainless steel cassette profile.
The design for the Halyard Hotel also called for a large number of preformed corners, which contributed both to the buildability and speed of installation on site, and the consistently high-end aesthetic of the completed façade.
Materials Used
Shackerley provided BrickClad® bricks from our Saxony range in a traditional variegated redbrick colourway in two brick sizes: 277x65mm and 269 x65mm to enable the Roman brick aesthetic.
The BrickClad® bricks supplied for the project also included a number of preformed corners and details, profiled in-house at our ISO 9001 certified factories.
Shackerley manufactured the stainless steel cassette profiles for the project at our quality assured factories, using our bespoke roll-forming machines.
The façade system provided for the Halyard Hotel in Liverpool also included the patented Shackerley SureClad® primary support brackets and ‘T’ profiles, along with stainless steel fixings.
