Shackerley Makes the Facade Awards Shortlist
We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the Facade Awards 2021 for the use of the Shackerley SureClad® Ceramic Granite system at One Vesta Street, a stylish residential development in the trendy New Islington area of Manchester.
Developed by Manchester Life Development Company (MLDC), on the site of a former iron foundry, the project will bring 169 new apartments and three townhouses to the eastern edge of the city centre. The SureClad® Ceramic Granite system was specified by Chapman Taylor Architects and installed by SpeedClad, with a total facade area of more than 5000m2.
The project has been shortlisted in the ‘Best use of a rainscreen system using glass or ceramics’ category and is just one of seven projects to have been shortlisted in the category for the awards, which recognise excellence across a wide variety of facade projects.
The Shackerley SureClad® system was installed in a creamy-beige ‘Lopar’ colourway to give a limestone-like appearance to the building, following a switch from the initial GRC specification. The A1 non-combustible panels with A2-s1,d0 rated anti-fragmentation safety mesh were installed using the Shackerley Hang-On installation system, with each section of the installation involving 12 panel sizes, and each configuration of 12 panels repeated randomly across the facade.

Shackerley’s SureClad® ceramic cladding answers the non-combustible cladding requirements of BS EN13501-1. Our ceramic facade system is an A1 rated rainscreen. We offer a choice of A1 rated or A2 rated anti-fragmentation backing, resulting in an A1 rated ceramic facade or A2 S1 D0 cladding system.
