The Shackerley SureClad® ceramic cladding system has been installed as part of a £2.6m retail park refurbishment in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester.
Specified for the ‘goal post’ facade surrounds of the Sports Direct store, Shackerley’s SureClad® ceramic rainscreen system is often the lightweight facade of choice for retail properties of this kind.
Shackerley’s SureClad® ceramic facade system was specified in a polished black ‘Basilicata’ colourway, using large format 1198 x 598 ceramic cladding panels. At just 11mm thick, the lightweight cladding panels were an ideal choice for over-cladding the retail building, creating an impactful refresh, along with feature entrances and curtain walling.
The Shackerley SureClad® ceramic cladding system provides a low maintenance facade for the retail property. Shackerley’s ceramic cladding panels are impervious, which means that they have excellent resilience to freeze/thaw conditions, and are resistant to graffiti, algae and U/V, preventing discolouration over time.
All ceramic cladding panels for the 190m2 ceramic facade were manufactured at one of Shackerley’s ISO 9001 quality assured cladding factories in the UK and installed using the Queen’s Award winning SureClad® patented Access cladding fixing system.
The building envelope solution included both ceramic cladding from Shackerley’s SureClad® facade system range, and Kingspan Facades’ Karrier Panel system. It brings together Kingspan’s high performance structural insulating panels with the premium appearance and longevity of Shackerley’s fully-prefabricated ceramic cladding.
The combined Kingspan and Shackerley ceramic facade system enabled rapid installation and ensured the building could be made watertight quickly with the installation of the structural panels, prior to installation of the SureClad® ceramic facade. The completed hybrid facade system also delivers excellent airtightness and low U-values post installation, resulting in a high standard of comfort and energy efficiency.

Shackerley’s SureClad® ceramic cladding answers the non combustible cladding requirements of BS EN13501-1. Our ceramic facade system is an A1 rated rainscreen. We offer a choice of A1 rated or A2 rated anti-fragmentation backing, resulting in an A1 rated ceramic facade or A2 S1 D0 cladding system.
