BrickClad® Facade has impact in Epping
Shackerley’s BrickClad® brick cladding system has been used to create the detailed facades of a new leisure centre in Epping. Installed as part of a Kingspan project, the facade features a variety of specially formed bricks and has been completed with our BrickClad® rails secured directly onto the Kingspan panels.
Epping Leisure has been designed as an energy efficient and sustainable local facility, which includes two swimming pools, a sports hall, a gym, squash courts and studios. Planning requirements called for a facade to match the colour and materiality of an adjacent building and we provided a BrickClad® facade in a variegated beige and cream colourway, with multiple brick shapes and sizes to meet the requirements of the complex design.
Designed by Pozzoni Architecture, and constructed by Pellikaan, a specialist in leisure centre projects, the facade features varied brick bonds and protruding bricks to create features that add texture and interest to the building. Two different shades of our BrickClad® mortar were also used to further enhance the visual appeal of the facade.
Our standard BrickClad® bricks are 65mm high to enable them to fit firmly into the Magnelis steel BrickClad® rails, which we manufacture in-house using bespoke roll forming machines at our ISO 9001-certified UK factories. Alongside the 6,6049 standard 215 x 65 x 25mm bricks we provided for a 1114m2 facade area at Epping Leisure Centre, we also produced 15,312 special 325 x 65 x 25mm extra long bricks for a 387m2 facade area, and 286 special 105 x 65 x 45mm bricks to enable ICS Roofing to create textured feature areas of the facade. In addition, we supplied a total of 2,965 half bricks in both standard and special thicknesses, along with 762 corner bricks.
Our patented BrickClad® mechanically fixed brick cladding facade system was installed in combination with Kingspan’s KS1100 Quadcore Karrier panels. A lightweight, factory-engineered building system that provides a weathertight building envelope with U-values as low as 0.08 W/m2K, Kingspan’s Quadcore Karrier system offers rapid installation and allows earlier internal fit-out while the facade is installed.
Fixing our BrickClad® Magnelis® steel rails directly to the Kingspan panels was a rapid installation solution for ICS, which avoided the need for any substructure or cavity barriers. It is a revolutionary installation a technique that has been proven in numerous projects certified by the CWCT as a robust and compliant facade build-up.
This BrickClad® project continues our long-established partnership with Kingspan and highlights the versatility of our BrickClad® system in enabling the construction of facades with complex details and multiple brick sizes.
