SureClad® ceramic facade delivers style to distribution hub

SureClad® ceramic facade delivers style to distribution hub

Shackerley’s SureClad® ceramic cladding system has been installed as a feature to the facade of a new 150,000 sq ft distribution hub for one of the world’s leading online retailers at Glasgow Business Park in Baillieston.

The state-of-the-art distribution hub will be used to store stock and fulfil online shopping orders, in a warehousing facility that includes external delivery and dispatch areas, offices, catering and welfare facilities for staff.

The Shackerley SureClad® ceramic cladding system has been used to create a high quality, non-combustible facade surrounding the feature entrance for the reception and office areas at the new Glasgow distribution hub. Large format 1200x600mm ceramic cladding panels were used to create the 894.51m2 feature facade area. The design used highly polished, marbled, mid-grey ceramic cladding panels from the Shackerley SureClad® range to contrast with the black goal post facade detail.

The SureClad® ceramic facade system has been installed by cladding installation specialist, J D Pierce (Contracts) Ltd, using Shackerley’s patented and Queen’s Award-winning SureClad® Access system. The ceramic facade system from Shackerley was installed in combination with Kingspan Facades’ Karrier Panel system. It brings together Kingspan’s high performance structural insulating panels with the premium appearance and longevity of Shackerley’s fully-prefabricated ceramic cladding.

The combined Kingspan and Shackerley ceramic facade system enabled rapid installation and ensured the building could be made watertight quickly, with installation of the structural panels, prior to installation of the SureClad® ceramic facade. The completed hybrid facade system also delivers excellent airtightness and low U-values post installation, resulting in a high standard of comfort and energy efficiency.

The online shopping distribution hub is now complete, and the Shackerley SureClad® ceramic facade provides a high-end welcome for visitors, while the facility supports an efficient service for the retailer’s customers. The project demonstrates how Shackerley’s SureClad® facade system can be installed to add style and quality to developments in the warehousing and distribution sector.

Located close to the motorway network, Airview Park will provide 175,000 sq ft of bespoke offices. Shackerley has provided SureClad® large format ceramic cladding panels for two of the first buildings to be completed at the new development. For the latest project, the Shackerley SureClad® ceramic cladding system has been installed in a creamy beige colourway across a total facade area of 110m2, creating feature entrances and eye-catching contrast for the facade. Previously, Shackerley’s engineered stone SureClad® panels were installed as a goal post feature for both the front and rear facades of a major UK housebuilder’s HQ.

For the most recent project, the SureClad® facade system was recommended by Task Contract Services Ltd (http://www.taskcontracts.com), the cladding installer on the project, who have used the Shackerley SureClad® ceramic facade system on a number of previous cladding installation projects. The company recommended the ceramic cladding system because Shackerley SureClad® facades have robust certification for fire safety, impact resistance and seismic testing, ensuring the safety of the facade installation throughout the lifespan of the building, and complete peace of mind for both developers and occupiers.

The Shackerley SureClad® ceramic porcelain facade system is also impervious and unaffected by UV light, ensuring it keeps its high-end appearance throughout the service life of the facade. Shackerley ceramic porcelain facade panels also have excellent resistance to freeze/thaw conditions, and to algae, graffiti and airborne pollutants, preventing damage or discolouration to the facade.

The large format 1200 x 600mm ceramic cladding panels have been installed using the Shackerley SureClad® Hang On fixing system. The result is a stylish, contemporary facade for a prestigious commercial location.

The use of the Shackerley SureClad® facade system as both ceramic and engineered stone cladding for two projects on the Airview Park development demonstrates the variety and flexibility within the Shackerley range.
