Granite, What is it ?
|
|
Ceramic
Granite is the result of lengthy and concentrated research
into both the raw materials and manufacturing processes to
ensure a natural material with all the virtues of granite
or marble, without the disadvantages of faults and impurities
reproducing the varying shades of colour, veining and grain
of the original stone.
The
manufacturing process begins with the selection of raw materials,
both locally and from various parts of the world, including
feldspars, quartz, clays and other minerals which are washed
and crushed with all impurities such as carbonaceous compounds
removed.
|
 |
The resultant powder, carefully graded and using a patented
mixing process to produce veining that is homogeneous and frost
resistant, is then dry pressed achieving up to 10,000 tonnes
to ensure maximum density and resultant strength, impermeability
etc. This is
followed by firing in a roller kiln at temperatures exceeding
1200°C.
With the purity of the components, tremendous pressure and firing
temperature, this is a material that can be regarded as permanent
in its true sense. Its hardness, greater than granite at Mohs
9 and uniformity of structure, no shakes, no faults, and density
to achieve utter impermeability requires no chemical or additives
and none are used. The effect is achieved naturally and the
material can be formed into slabs of 20 or 30mm thick and sizes
up to 1800mm x 1300mm, truly a unique product. |
